Ohio River Greenway Master Plan Refresh: Greenway 2040
Thanks to the Ogle Foundation’s generous donation, the Ohio River Greenway Commission now has a refreshed Master Plan putting forth a vision for a world class linear park system along the Ohio River Greenway. The mission of the Ohio River Greenway is to provide a common linkage between the Communities of Jeffersonville, Clarksville, and New Albany, Indiana along the banks of the Ohio River and to promote a passive recreational environment for river access, while allowing each community to construct riverfront amenities to enhance the overall project. The Ogle Foundation’s generous contribution aids in continuing the mission of the Ohio River Greenway. It is appreciated and gratefully acknowledged.
Since 1993, leaders in Southern Indiana have been actively engaged in the planning, funding, design, and construction of the Greenway. The Greenway Commission envisions that the connection of communities along the Ohio River will foster cooperation and benefits such as tourism, seasonal festivals, dining/entertainment, and a renewed interest in the real estate along our waterfront. Indeed, this vision has taken shape as the project has progressed. The quality of life in our communities will be enhanced with increased access to the river and the ability to showcase the heritage and culture of the region. Completion of the Greenway will strengthen Southern Indiana property values, draw businesses to the area, create jobs and strengthen Indiana’s economy.
With the master plan refreshed, the Ohio River Greenway Commission is ready to begin the process of detailed planning and implementation to create a linear park that will build upon the Greenway’s multi-use path, while preserving and enhancing the aesthetic character of the Greenway and its surrounding areas.
